Solution Name: TREE – Blockchained transparency and traceability for textiles
Target Challenge: Innovate – Challenge brought by Social Innovator
Struggle develops a blockchain-powered, distributed data graph application for increasing the transparency and traceability of textile products.

Solution Description
Struggle develops a blockchain-powered, distributed data graph application for increasing the transparency and traceability of textile products. This app, named TREE, empowers consumers to make more sustainable choices by promoting collective action. It utilizes a cutting-edge technology called sNFT (Shareable Non-Fungible Token), derived from recent research, to connect various actors in the textile industry. This blockchained and decentralized approach promotes social justice by supporting more democratic and fair practices in producing and sharing information.
TREE verifies the authenticity and origin of products, which is particularly crucial in the textile industry, where provenance and ethical production practices are increasingly valued. The shareability aspect of sNFTs brings additional benefits. It allows multiple stakeholders within the supply chain to access and contribute to a shared record of a product’s journey. This collaborative approach fosters a more integrated and cooperative supply chain, where manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and even consumers can interact with and augment the data associated with each product. This shared visibility ensures that everyone involved is accountable for their part in the supply chain, enhancing overall trust and integrity in the system. Most existing solutions do not offer the same level of consumer engagement and empowerment.
Moreover, a central policy goal of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) regulation is that the product data is preserved for the product’s whole life cycle. Unequivocal compliance with this mandate is challenging to achieve with any centralized solution currently available in the markets. The proposed TREE application will make data from different Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems compatible with each other and simplify the creation of a common data graph by connecting distributed evidence immutably between partners.
