Calabi
Solution Name: SmaCPla – Smart Consumer Platform for the Short Supply Chain
Target Challenge:
- Building digitized and scalable midstream infrastructure for small-chain fresh food supply.
- Developing a solution that supports the pre-ordering and sale of seasonal products in close surroundings.
A consumer platform that increases accessibility to local and empowers small scale producers with tools and data.
Solution Description
Calabi creates digital tools that empower local, small scale farmers. The objective of these tools is to help the farmers work more efficiently so that they can redistribute more of their limited time and resources to their field and crop.
The tools that Calabi develops are built on top of the Calabi platform. This platform offers a complete solution tailored to the specific challenges that the short supply chain faces. Its functions span: an order portal for business relations; automated administration; marketing help and an array of crop-picking and harvest-planning tools.
Besides these practical tools, Calabi has a mission to empower its users with data analytical tools. Currently, typically only larger corporations benefit from contemporary data intelligence (machine learning, forecasting, optimization), giving the short supply chain a disadvantage. The Calabi team has a strong analytical background, and believes that for the short supply chain to become competitive with the conventional value chain, these tools must be made accessible to the smaller stakeholders also.
Calabi has so far focussed on B2B channels (farms to supermarkets and restaurants). To expand the mission and reach, Calabi aims to develop a consumer (B2C) facing solution to the platform. The two main goals of the proposed solution are 1. to make local products more accessible for the end consumer and 2. empower short supply chain farmers with data analytics obtained from the B2C channel.
